Plastic Recycling

Plastic Film and Rigid Plastic

There are two types of plastics recycling:  Plastic Film and Rigid Plastic.  The types of rigid plastic accepted at Mastagard are:

  • Bottles
  • Buckets
  • Pallets
  • garden furniture
  • garden hoses
  • plant pots
  • children's toys
  • crates
  • storage containers
  • petri dishes
  • hard plastic tubs

Rigid plastics and plastic films are are typically very bulky so recycling the material and removing it from the general waste stream helps tremendously in saving room at landfill sites which saves you money.  Plastics should not be thrown away because it is non-biodegradable waste.   Recycling rigid plastic and plastic film is a great way to help the environment and Mastagard will make it easy for you to do.

Mastagard's state-of-the-art plastics recycling plant can recycle rigid plastic and plastic film into a reusable pellet which can be used to make composite lumber for backyard decks and fences, lawn and garden products, pallets, crates, containers, piping, automotive parts, and new plastic bags.

How Does Mastagard Recycle Rigid Plastic and Plastic Film?  Once the rigid plastic and plastic film is at our plastics recycling plant, they are sorted according to their resin identification code, a method of categorization of polymer types, which was developed by the Society of the Plastics Industry in 1988.  We separate the plastics by colour and then we shred them. These shredded fragments undergo multiple washing and drying processes to eliminate impurities like paper labels. Once the material is cleaned it is melted down and extruded into reusable pellets.
